Azura - Elder Scrolls
Azura is the Daedric Prince of Dusk and Dawn. She is also known as Mother of Roses and Queen of the Night Sky. Azura is known as one of the most merciful gods, but when enraged, her wrath can be painful and swift. In her hands, she holds a crescent moon and, of course, her Star.
Daedric princes, also known as Daedric lords, are the most powerful of the Daedra. They reign in the plane of Oblivion, which is generally known to reflect their nature, but in this case, Azura is one of the three gods known as the ‘good gods.’
"Ah, Azura's Star... as beautiful as all the tales tell."
―Martin Septim
Azura’s quest is simple, she merely wishes for her Star to be restored and put into the hands of someone good, which in this case is the last Dragonborn, you.
To begin the quest ‘The Black Star,’ you must go talk to Aranea Ienith who presides at the Shrine of Azura. You can find the shrine south of Winterhold. Azura has chosen you as her champion. You are on the search for her star and correcting it to its rightful stance. Aranea tells you to find “an elven mage who can turn the brightest star into the darkest night.”
There are three ways to go about the next part. One is going to the Frozen Hearth in Winterhold and talking to the barkeep. The second is asking Farata in the College of Winterhold if you are a member. And last, which I believe is the easiest way, is going to Necker directly and talking to him. He will tell you its last known location after some initial conversation
The next part will send you to Ilinalta's Deep. You go through the flooded chambers to find Malyn Varen’s skeleton containing the Broken Azura’s Star. You can return to the shrine or to Nelacar. If you return the star to Nelacar, he will send you into the Star to cleanse it, and you are rewarded with the Black Star which is similar to a black soul gem, and that is the end of the quest. But, if you return the star to the shrine but when you return, you will be given Azura’s Star, which is like a soul gem, after you purify the Star from within. Additionally, you are given the option to have Aranea as a companion or follower. In my opinion, it is better to return the star to the shrine to honor Azura.
To clear and restore the Star you must actually go inside it, where the mage who died continues to corrupt it. You go inside and kill him as well as probably some dremora who he summoned. The previous owner of the star has it in hand, and you grab it from him. Once the star is clear, Azura summon you out as well as the dead Malyn. Azura then thanks you and gives you the Star.
The star itself is a Daedric artifact and, as said previously, is like a soul gem, but unlike a soul gem, it never breaks. A continuous problem some people have while playing Skyrim is not having enough soul gems to fill their desired items, but Azura's Star refills and can be used again and again.
There is actually another daedric artifact related and connected to Azura. It is known as Azura’s Ring. Though you can not find this artifact in the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you can find it in the Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. The Ring has two effects, night eye and restores fatigue. If you ever play that game, the ring is given after the completion of the main quest line.
