Hermaeus Mora - Elder Scrolls

Hermaeus Mora has many names, such as the Woodland Man, Hermorah, Hermius, the Gardener of Men, Herma Mora, and Hormaius. He is the Daedric Prince of memory and knowledge. He has never been associated with good nor evil. He generally appears as a void of darkness or a grotesque mass of tentacles and eyeballs to mortals. People call him the keeper of helpful and destructive knowledge.

Hermaeus has two different artifacts. Starting with the Oghma Infinium: The Oghma Infinium is a powerful book that was written by the wizard sage Xarxes. The book is given to the champion of Hermaeus Mora after the completion of his quest. Once it is read, the book returns to the realm of Oblivion and to Hermaeus Mora. Additionally, once the book is read, there are three paths to choose from that will add five skill levels to six skills.

The other artifacts are known as the Black Books. There are a total of seven Black Books that are scattered throughout the ruins of Solstheim and are guarded by three dragon priests. The books were made to lure mortals unto working for Hermaeus Mora. The books are extremely powerful and give mortals powers that they could never conceive themselves. The books are as mysterious as they are powerful. Some appear to have been written in the ancient past, while others seem to look like they were written sometime in the distant future.

In Skyrim, you interact with Hermaeus Mora when you start the quest called “Discerning The Transmundane.” It is started during the main quest “Elder Knowledge,” after you speak to Septimus Signus. He is in an ice cave north of Winterhold labeled on the map as Septimus Signus' Outpost. Hermaeus asks you to continue to help Septimus because he wants access to what's inside the box. As you finish helping Septimus, the lockbox is opened and Septimus' existence is no longer necessary to Hermaeus, so he is turned to ash. You become Hermaeus' champion after you grab his artifact, the Oghma Infinium. After a conversation, the Wretched Abyss (Hermaeus Mora), returns to his realm and the quest is done.
